As discussed during the last two blogs the ASLA, or American Society of Landscape Architects, releases what they feel will be the upcoming trends for the next year year based on feedback from Landscape Architects. The ASLA then shares the trends they are currently seeing within the industry.
This next list shares what outdoor recreation amenities are most requested…what people “want to do outside” in both single and multi-family residences. This list in broken into single family vs. multi-family so the comparison is easy to see.

This list is telling us that in a single family situation people are looking to customize their homes for specific purposes based on their interests, while multi-family residences are more focused on multi use spaces where minimal upkeep is needed. The overall trend here is that people feel very encouraged to get outside more often for sporting and relaxing activities.

It is important as landscape designers to stay informed of the trends and what our customers are looking for in their outdoor spaces. As trends change over time landscape designers must stay educated so we can continue to create customized spaces for our clients. We like to be aware of what people are looking for so we can create the best outdoor spaces possible.
