Growing edible plants continues to be a trend that is gaining momentum. As many people try to have diets based heavier on fruits and vegetables it can be difficult to to get enough protein in your diet. There are many plants that offer quite a bit of protein and that can easily be incorporated in your garden.

Here are a few of our easy to grow favorites:
1. Beans – Lima Beans, Black Beans and Soy Beans pack a lot of protein. Limas contain 7.3g per ½ cup, Black Beans 7.6g and Soy Beans 18g!!! Beans are easy to grow and easy to preserve by freezing and canning making this a great addition to your garden.

2. Seeds – Pumpkin Seeds pack 5g in a ¼ cup and Sunflower Seeds a 7.25g per ¼ cup

3. Green Veggies – These tend to be lower in protein, but here are some of the winners in this category: Spinach (3g per ½ cup), Broccoli (2g per ½ cup) and Brussel Spouts (2g per ½ cup).
